A Calling to Grow: Connect and Collaborate @ MIBS 2024!

The 19th Malaysia International Branding Showcase (MIBS) 2024, along with the Malaysia Import and Export Commodity Fair 2024, is set to be a significant event for businesses and entrepreneurs, scheduled to take place from November 28 to 30, 2024, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

Jointly organized by the Malaysia Promas International Business Society (PROMAS), Wawasanita, and DPUM, and endorsed by MATRADE, Hawa Malaysia, and Women in Trade and Industry (WITI), MIBS 2024 will feature an impressive 540 booths, welcoming approximately 280 international exhibitors and 260 local exhibitors.

Spread across Halls 1 to 5 of KLCC, the showcase will serve as a dynamic platform for fostering economic growth and enhancing international trade. Local exhibitors will occupy Halls 1 and 2, while international exhibitors will be located in Halls 3,4 and 5.

This year’s event will focus on four main categories: the Malaysia International Garment & Fabrics Expo (MGF), the Malaysia International Smart Commodities Fair (MSC), the Malaysia International Traditional & Complementary Health Food Product Expo (MTH), and the Malaysia International Food & Beverage Fair (MFB), catering to diverse industries and interests.

In his speech, Datuk Chong Chong Tik, Managing Director of ES International Event Management, highlighted that in previous years, participation from Malaysian entrepreneurs was only around 10 percent. This year, with the collaboration of the Malaysia Import and Export Commodity Fair, participation has increased to 40 percent.

MIBS 2024 serves as a critical channel for Malaysian businesses to promote and sell their products internationally, with a particular focus on China as a key target market. It acts as an economic catalyst that provides Malaysian SMEs with a robust platform to gain visibility and secure partnerships with international buyers, especially in high-demand sectors such as halal products and agriculture.

The event is also linked to Malaysia’s diplomatic goals by translating diplomatic ambitions into practical outcomes for the economy. This includes enhancing Malaysian brands’ export readiness and positioning Malaysia as a competitive player on the global stage.

MIBS 2024 is not just an exhibition; it is a strategic initiative aimed at advancing economic growth in Malaysia. The event targets projected transactions worth approximately RM11 million and aims to facilitate the signing of 125 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between participating businesses.

To attract more international buyers, the organizers are offering complimentary three-day, two-night accommodations at four-star hotels for over 300 registered international buyers. This focus on tangible outcomes underscores the event’s role in enhancing trade relations and economic collaboration within the ASEAN region and beyond.

Key expected outcomes include increased trade transactions projected at approximately RM11 million, expanded market access for Malaysian products to global markets—particularly in high-demand sectors like halal foods and sustainable technologies—strengthened bilateral relations through collaborative initiatives formed at MIBS, promotion of Malaysian brands to elevate their global visibility, especially in niche markets, and contributions to economic diversification by showcasing innovative products that align with global market trends.

The event will also facilitate approximately 480 B2B meetings throughout its duration, providing ample networking opportunities for participants. Additionally, MIBS 2024 expects coverage from 31 local and international media outlets, ensuring that the event garners significant domestic and global attention.

Datin Dr. Norlaili Hj. Alias emphasized that “MIBS 2024 serves as a premier branding showcase platform where Wawasanita will play a pivotal role in facilitating certification and enhancing the business-to-business (B2B) experience with various countries.”

This initiative involves key organizations such as MARTRADE and SIRIM, which will support businesses in obtaining certifications like ISO, Halal, GMP, and others. Furthermore, she announced that KPDNHEP would assist by granting the “Made in Malaysia” logo free of charge to eligible businesses that meet established criteria regarding their raw materials.

This platform is also unique in providing Malaysian women entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds with hands-on exposure and training through real-world applications. The results of this initiative will be presented to WITI (Women in Trade Initiative) under the leadership of YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul for evaluation and decision-making. This effort aims to sustain the growth of rural entrepreneurs, particularly those involved in the cottage industry.

Dato Seri Abu Hassan Mohd Nor, President of DPUM, remarked that November 28 marks a significant milestone for entrepreneurs transitioning from having zero knowledge to becoming export-ready businesses. He stated that DPUM is committed to opening pathways for all entrepreneurs—whether from urban or rural areas—through MIBS 2024.

This marks Dewan Perniagaan Usahawan Malaysia’s fourth consecutive participation in MIBS, which has successfully nurtured many Bumiputera entrepreneurs toward becoming export-ready.

Additionally, from November 20 to 27, DPUM will lead a delegation of 36 entrepreneurs to Wenzhou, China—a city with a population of 180 million—to introduce their products on an international platform involving over 30 countries (The Zhejiang (Wenzhou) Imported Consumer Goods Expo 2024).

Dr. Nor Laili also called upon all Malaysian women entrepreneurs to join forces in strengthening the economy and household income through genuine platforms like MIBS 2024. She expressed her hope that at least 420 B2B agreements would be established during the event—not only through MoUs but also through Memorandums of Collaboration (MoCs) and Memorandums of Agreement (MoAs). The goal is to facilitate diverse product containers entering both export and import markets under one brand name certified by SIRIM for test marketing.

Furthermore, following recent announcements by Malaysia’s deputy prime minister, she encouraged more government agencies to support women’s empowerment initiatives and promote economic sustainability.

MIBS 2024 will also feature an Industry Engagement Cultural Show and the prestigious 20th Year PROMAS Awards Dinner on November 29, 2024, at the Grand Ballroom of Sunway Putra Hotel. This gala dinner will honor industry leaders for their outstanding contributions to trade and innovation. The Right Honorable Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Bin Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, is expected to grace the occasion.

The 19th Malaysia International Branding Showcase stands as a testament to Malaysia’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and expanding its global presence. By attending this event, businesses can leverage opportunities to expand their reach and contribute to Malaysia’s economic growth trajectory.

Mark your calendars for November 28-30, 2024, at KLCC—this is an event you won’t want to miss!
