As Malaysia continues to assert its presence on the global economic stage, platforms like the Malaysia International Branding Showcase (MIBS 2024) play a pivotal role in fostering international trade and strengthening business connections.

Scheduled to be held from November 28 to 30, 2024, at the prestigious Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), MIBS 2024 promises to be the largest edition yet, offering a diverse array of products, services, and opportunities for local and international businesses.

Since its inception in 2005, MIBS has been held annually, evolving into one of Malaysia’s premier showcases for brand promotion. Over the years, it has reflected the country’s dynamic role in global trade, providing a premier platform for manufacturers and traders to enhance their visibility and explore new market opportunities.

Organized by ES International Event Management in collaboration with the Malaysia Promas International Business Society (PROMAS), Persatuan Usahawan Wawasan Wanita Malaysia (WAWASANITA), the event is endorsed by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), ensuring that it meets high standards and effectively promotes Malaysian brands both domestically and internationally.

This year marks the first involvement of the Majlis Hal Ehwal Wanita dan Keluarga Malaysia (HAWA), which adds a new dimension to the event.

Supported by HAWA and DPUM, along with over 50 domestic and international business associations, the 19th edition of the Malaysia International Branding Showcase (MIBS) is set to uphold its legacy of excellence.

Their involvement has been vital in ensuring the success and ongoing growth of the event, which serves as a comprehensive platform for trade, learning, and innovation.

HAWA Malaysia serves as a partner to MITI in implementing the WITI initiative. Established to address the barriers faced by women in the economic sector, HAWA focuses on creating supportive networks and programs that facilitate women’s involvement in trade and industry. The collaboration aims to provide a platform for women to engage effectively in economic activities.

Dato Chong Chong Tek, representing the organizing team and the Malaysia Promes International Business Society (PROMAS), formally introduced the event at a recent press conference, emphasizing the expanded scope of this year’s showcase.

Several distinguished figures were present at the press conference, adding further prestige to the event. The guest of honor was Tan Sri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad, Deputy President of the Majlis Hal Ehwal Wanita dan Keluarga Malaysia (HAWA).

Other prominent attendees included Lady Puan Sri Dr Susan Cheah, Honorary Life President of the Malaysia Promas International Business Society (PROMAS); Datin Dr Norlia @ Norlaili Alias, President of the Persatuan Usahawan Wawasan Wanita Malaysia (WAWASANITA); and Dato Seri Abu Hasan Mohd Nor, President of the Dewan Perniagaan Usahawan Malaysia (DPUM).

According to Tan Sri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad, Deputy President of the Majlis Hal Ehwal Wanita dan Keluarga Malaysia (HAWA), HAWA’s involvement signifies a commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs and enhancing their visibility in the trade and industry sectors.

By collaborating with key organizations and leveraging support from MATRADE, HAWA aims to create an inclusive environment that promotes growth, innovation, and international partnerships for women entrepreneurs.

MIBS 2024 will feature approximately 550 booths, representing exhibitors from across the globe, including China, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Pakistan, Iran, and many other regions. International exhibitors will be hosted in Halls 4 and 5, while Halls 1 and 2 will spotlight Malaysia’s finest local products.

This expansion is largely in response to the visionary input from Lady Puan Sri Dr. Susan Cheah, Honorary Life President of PROMAS. It is more than just a growth in size—it reflects the evolving nature of international trade and Malaysia’s pivotal role within it.

MIBS 2024 & Malaysia Import and Export Commodity Fair

With her guidance, MIBS 2024 will encompass not only the branding showcase but also the newly introduced Malaysia Import and Export Commodity Fair. This addition broadens the event’s reach, opening the doors for greater cross-border trade and collaborations.

The introduction of the Malaysia Import and Export Commodity Fair is a testament to this commitment, broadening the scope of MIBS to cover key sectors such as:

  1. Malaysia International Garment and Fabrics Expo
  2. Malaysia International Smart Commodity Fair
  3. Malaysia International Traditional & Complementary Health Food Products Expo
  4. Malaysia International Food and Beverage Expo

These sectors reflect Malaysia’s diverse industrial landscape and its growing influence in fields ranging from smart commodities to health and wellness products.

One of the key goals of MIBS 2024 is to bridge local SMEs with international buyers, offering a crucial platform for Malaysian entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative products. As Dr Susan Cheah noted, the event serves as “a bridge connecting Malaysian SMEs with international buyers, allowing them to explore opportunities and expand their reach.” By facilitating these connections, MIBS empowers local businesses to thrive globally.

To further bolster and enhance international participation, MIBS 2024 will offer a complimentary three-day, two-night stay at a four-star hotel for international buyers, underscoring the event’s commitment to fostering strong business relationships. This initiative aims to boost the visibility of Malaysian products on the global stage, driving both short-term trade deals and long-term partnerships.

Dato Chong Chong Tek underscored how this will lead to “stronger business connections and mutually beneficial partnerships,” positioning Malaysia as a hub for global trade.

The 19th Malaysia International Branding Showcase (MIBS) 2024 will feature participation from companies across 14 provinces in China and aims to achieve a transaction value of RM3 Billion while fostering significant international business collaborations.

Datin Dr. Norlia @ Norlaili Alias, President of the Persatuan Usahawan Wawasan Wanita Malaysia (WAWASANITA), highlighted plans to guide 100 entrepreneurs in participating in this vital event, which serves as a platform for local businesses seeking international engagement and expansion.

Focusing on the food and beverage sectors, Dr. Norli emphasized products like Bird’s Nest and Musang King durians, which are in high demand in the Chinese market. These offerings are expected to attract significant attention during the exhibition, showcasing Malaysia’s unique culinary heritage to a global audience.

MIBS 2024 represents more than just an exhibition—it is a symbol of Malaysia’s economic potential. The event’s expansion reflects the country’s readiness to adapt to the changing global market and strengthen its position as a hub for innovation and excellence.

As Dato Chong Chong Tek pointed out, the showcase offers “an international platform for the presentation of Malaysian products” and is set to elevate Malaysian brands to new heights.

Abu Hassan, President of DPUM, expressed strong support for WAWASANITA’s initiatives, urging the government to provide targeted grants to small businesses. He highlighted that such funding would enable associations to identify entrepreneurs with high-quality products ready for international exposure. “Currently, less than 20% of small enterprises are ‘export ready,'” he noted, emphasizing the importance of exhibitions like MIBS for expanding their audience.

He called for increased government involvement to help capable entrepreneurs grow beyond domestic markets, stating, “DPUM has not received any government funding so far, but we continue to support our members.”

As the 19th edition of the Malaysia International Branding Showcase approaches, both local and international participants are eagerly anticipating a showcase that will not only highlight the quality and creativity of Malaysian products but also open doors to new markets and opportunities.

The event is expected to attract thousands of visitors, including entrepreneurs, buyers, and industry leaders from around the globe.

With a rich array of exhibitors, strategic collaborations, and a clear focus on innovation under one roof, MIBS 2024 is set to become a landmark event, helping Malaysian SMEs shine on the world stage and build lasting international partnerships that benefit the broader business community.

“Together, we can elevate Malaysia’s presence in the global marketplace,” ensuring that the country’s industries and entrepreneurs continue to thrive and grow in the years to come.”
